Class Trips and Civil War Battlefield Tour

Starting from

This is a great Class Trip destination. Just a day trip overnight or in combination with Atlanta or Nashville, Chattanooga is a charming and unexpected delight to discover. Chattanooga, Tennessee, a roughly two hour drive from Atlanta, is a hidden gem of the south, steeped in Civil War history. Perched on the Tennessee River, the city offers a quaint, southern charm with beautiful views of the river and looming mountains. The hit song “Chattanooga Choo-Choo” is indeed rooted in reality, because the city was a major railroad hub due to cargo transported by river. Today, a portion of the hub remains and is the site of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Hotel, where one can see locomotives and cars from the 1800s at the original platforms, and dine in one of the cars, torches illuminating the platform out the window. Following the Battle of Chickamauga nearby in September 1863, the Union and Confederate Army fought in and around Chattanooga for months, including the famous Battle of Lookout Mountain which overlooks the city and river. Chattanooga’s Incline Railway is the steepest rail ride in the world and can be ridden today up Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain features several historical sites, hiking trails with stunning, panoramic vistas, and Ruby Falls Cave. Ruby Falls Cave is 1,000 feet underground, can be toured with a professional guide, and is safe for people of all ages. At the end of the cave, you will stand at the base of an underground waterfall that drops 145 feet into a pool. The cavern at the end of the cave, illuminated by multi-colored lights, is a feast for the eyes. Chattanooga’s aquarium is worth the visit, state of the art, vast, diverse, and includes an IMAX theater. 5 Go Educational Tours
